Little Jimmy, Texas is a small town off the beaten path. It boasts a population of almost 8,000 on a sign just outside the boarders. Located in Jackson County it's a day trip to the gulf of Mexico, which many teenagers take advantage of, and so far off the interstate outsiders are a novelty. Like most small towns football season is observed with an almost religious reverence, cheerleaders naturally rank amongst the most popular, and everyone knows everyone else since pre-school. Unlike other small towns, Little Jimmy has a dark undercurrent a stranger might sense without being able to put his finger on. A second glance around reveals a division so old it's almost easy to overlook, a line not so subtly drawn between the races.
Even if you could get a local to talk about it the lines have been clearly drawn for so long they wouldn't be able to tell you when it began. Rumors swirl around about certain families and their positions in the disputes, about their hatred of one another. The rich, influential white families know just how to keep themselves in that position. The Jackson family employs half the town and now the extended branches all seem intertwined into the sheriffs department... making it feel all the more dangerous to be on the roads after dark, that is if your skin is the wrong shade.
Outsiders come in one consistent package. Many years ago a program was instituted called the Honky Tonk Angels which placed troubled teenagers with volunteer families in Little Jimmy rather than serving a harsher sentence of juvenile hall in New York City. The program doesn't seem to be something that's easily removed despite the obvious displeasure a lot of residence have about shipping Manhattan's dilemma's to their doorstep. Volunteer families face almost as much hostility as minority ones... after all they're lowering real estate values too.
